Editorial policy

This is the set of rules the pipeline is built to follow. They are not aspirations — the methodology page describes the machinery that enforces them.

Sources first

We do not scrape the open web. A story enters IndiaBatmi only if it came from a publisher in our registry — a list of outlets we have deliberately added after checking that their terms allow indexing and headline/snippet re-use. RSS is how we discover coverage; it is not blanket permission to republish. We publish short factual summaries and link out. We never copy full articles.

One event, one page

When several outlets report the same occurrence, we cluster them into a single canonical event page rather than publishing near-duplicates. The page shows how many independent sources reported it and links to each.

Claim classification

Every brief is labelled by the kind of claim it carries, and the label is shown on the page:

• Corroborated — independently reported by at least two distinct newsrooms in our registry.
• Official claim — a statement by a government body or official. Reported and attributed, not independently verified.
• Politician’s claim — a statement by a politician or party. Attributed, not verified.
• Allegation — an unproven assertion; no court has adjudicated it at the time of writing.
• Judicial status — reporting of filings, charges or court observations. Not a finding of guilt.

AI is a tool, and it is disclosed

Machine-learning models draft our 60-second briefs, cluster coverage, and translate into Indic languages. Every AI-written brief is marked on the page. AI never invents facts, sources, quotes, statistics, officials, dates or prices — it only reorganises what our registered sources already reported. Provenance (source count, confidence, freshness) is computed deterministically and cannot be overwritten by a model.

What we refuse

No fabricated news. No fake authors or invented expertise. No clickbait framing (“shocking”, “massive”) unless objectively supported. No doorway pages built purely to catch search traffic — a location or topic page exists only when there is real, populated coverage behind it. No paying to influence a brief’s verdict.

Markets and money

Market and price pages use delayed public data, are timestamped, and are clearly not financial advice. A market page never presents a forecast as a fact.

Corrections

Errors are fixed in the open. See the corrections policy. Publication dates are preserved when a story is updated; we change dateModified, not the original timestamp, so readers can always tell what is new.
